The Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) created the Electronic Submission of Medical Documentation (esMD) program to allow providers to electronically submit medical documentation in response to Medicare audits. The cost of this software as been prohibitive for small to mid-sized medical practices, with adaptation costs into the 10's of thousands of dollars.
